This event is a fundraiser and celebration of the closing of our second year and the opening of a third as a community writing space that centers women. Featured performers and writers are Oakland Poet Laureate Alison Luterman, spoken word artist Audacious, experimental poet and Kelsey Street Member Mg Roberts and the author of New York Times best selling children's novels Rad Women Worldwide and Rad Women A-Z, Kate Schatz.

This space does not have an ADA complient rest room but is accessible to people in wheel chairs. It is located at street level, no stairs. We are working on figuring out a solution for this event, such as the use of a nearby complient bathroom. This is not a scent-free or animal free space. Cats live here.

OUR MISSION
LIMINAL is a woman-owned business, fiscally sponsored by the 501(c)(3)c Media Alliance. Liminal is located in a brick and mortar space in Oakland, California that serves women and people who are gender non-conforming. Our mission is to provide physical space for the cultivation of community around intersectional narratives of class, race and gender and build platforms for increased visibility of these marginalized voices.
OUR VISION
We envision a society of empowered women and people of all gender identities whose narratives inform necessary changes in the existing culture, influence the work sector to adopt social justice business models that similarly value women and gender non-conforming creative entrepreneurs, prioritize the creation of class, race and gender diverse teams who have deeper connections to their work, greater investment in the team’s social and economic success and live more fulfilled and happy lives.

Performer Bios:
1. Alison Luterman:
I write poems and personal essays and plays and I've co-written a musical. I also perform improvised spoken word, dance and song with an Interplay troupe called Wing It! I have published three books of poetry: The Largest Possible Life (Cleveland State University Press); See How We Almost Fly (Pearl; Editions), and Desire Zoo (Tia Chucha Press.). My poems have appeared in The Sun, Rattle, Prairie Schooner, on BART as part of the Poetry in Motion program, and in the Library of Congress. I've had personal essays published in The SUN, MORE Magazine, The New York Times, The L.A. Review and Salon.My website is www.alisonluterman.net . You can sign up for my monthly e-newsletter there.
2. Indira Allegra
Indira Allegra is a writer and artist concerned with tension and intimacy. She is the recipient of the Oakland Individual Artist (2015) and Queer Cultural Center grants (2014) and has been honored with the Jackson Literary Award (2014), Lambda Literary Fellowship (2012) and Windgate Craft Fellowship (2015). Allegra's commissions include works for the SFMOMA, de Young Museum, Petty Biennial, SFJAZZ Poetry Festival, the City of Oakland and the National Queer Arts Festival. Her time-based works have screened at festivals such as MIX NYC (2013), Perlen Hannover LGBT Festival (2010), Bologna Lesbian Film Festival (2010) and Outfest Fusion (2009).
Allegra’s writing has been widely anthologized, she has contributed works to Cream City Review, HYSTERIA Magazine, make/shift Magazine, Konch Magazine and Yellow Medicine Review: A Journal of Indigenous Literature, Art and Thought among others. In 2014 she was the Dr. and Mrs. Ella Tag Lecturer at East Carolina University and a Lylle Parker Women of Color Speaker at the University of Oregon. Allegra has completed workshops and residencies at The Banff Centre in Canada (2012) Ponderosa Center for Movement and Discovery in Stolzenhagen (2016) and Takt in Berlin (2016). She is a 2017 Artist in Residence at Djerassi Residence Arts Program and the Headlands Center for the Arts.

3. Kate Schatz
Kate Schatz is the author of Rad Women Worldwide and Rad American Women A-Z, the New York Times bestselling feminist children’s books (for everyone).
The books have gotten love from BUST, Elle, Publisher’s Weekly, BuzzFeed, MTV, Ms., Teen Vogue, Kirkus Reviews, GOOD, The New York Times, AFROPUNK, and all kinds of other rad outlets. Kate and her collaborator Miriam Klein Stahl have appeared on Mashable, msnbc, and numerous public radio programs, including KQED Forum, Minnesota Public Radio, and KPCC’s Take Two.
Her book of fiction, Rid of Me: A Story, was published in 2006 as part of the acclaimed 33 1/3 series.
Her work has been published in Oxford American, Denver Quarterly, Joyland, East Bay Express, and San Francisco Chronicle, among others. Her short story “Folsom, Survivor” was a 2010 Notable Short Story in Best American Short Stories 2011.
She is a co-founder of The Encyclopedia Project, and the former Chair of the School of Literary Arts at Oakland School for the Arts. Kate received her MFA in Fiction Writing from Brown, and a double BA in Women’s Studies/Creative Writing from UC Santa Cruz. She lives in the Bay Area with her family.

Akilah "Kiki" Monifa is an author/writer/blogger/storyteller/microblogger/vlogger and an African-American lesbian mother of two teens living and loving in Oakland, California. She also writes for "The Progressive Media Project" and DivorcedMoms.com She is the Editor-in-chief/co-founder/co-publisher of Arise 2.0 a global digital publication by LGBTQ folks of color and our allies and for everyone. 5. Audacious Iam
Growing up in Ruleville Mississippi, the wild child of the late E. V. "Jug" and Christine Wilson, she discovered through life's hurdles that there is power in words. Audacious fell in love with the word early in life first taking stage at the age of twelve while being inspired by her favorite author Nikki Giovanni. Life has led her to travel around the world from Africa to New York spreading her positive messages of uplift and outreach.
Often described as infectious, Audacious provides experiences through her revolutionary style of poetry. She has allowed her words to possess her taking stage at venues such as The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (Dallas), The University of Texas at Arlington, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Arlington, Texas, Heart and Soul Center of Light (Oakland, CA), Mills College (Oakland, CA) and Las Positas College (Livermore, CA) just to name just a few.
Audacious is currently a faculty member at OSA (Oakland School for the Arts). She holds both her BA degree from Rust College (Holly Springs, MS; 2003) and her MFA Degree from Mills College (Oakland, CA; 2013).

6. Mg Roberts

Born in Subic Bay, Philippines, Mg Roberts teaches in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is a Kundiman Fellow, Kelsey Street Press member, VONA/Voices Alum, and sits on the Board of Small Press Traffic. She is author of NOT SO, SEA (Durga Press, 2014) and her work has appeared in the Stanford Journal of Asian American Studies, Dusie, Bombay Gin, Web Conjunctions, GALATEA RESURRECTS, Elderly and elsewhere. She co- edited the anthology Nests and Strangers: On Asian Women Poets (Kelsey Street Press) along with Timothy Yu and is currently co-editing Responses, New Writing, Flesh with Ronaldo Wilson and Bhanu Kapil; an anthology on the urgency of avant-garde writing written for and by writers of color. She lives in Oakland with her three daughters, two hens, one puppy, and geologist husband. Roberts' Black Radish title ANEMAL, UTER MECK was published by Black Radish Books in 2017.
